Gratefuls Sat. Night @ CNote, Swim Sun. 8am, both @ Nantasket

Our very own Vic Lanzilotti and The Gratefuls will be playing live Sat. Nov 12 from the CNote. Complete invite is below. If you have not seen this group perform, it’s highly recommended and if you have, more needn’t be said.

For those who can turn around quickly and make it back to Nantasket that next morning, there is at least one more swim of the season (hopefully more) starting at 8:00 from the usual spot. Coffee and other treats to be provided.

Going Global…

Crusty Barnacles have officially gone global and done so emphatically – not just swimming 2.5 miles in presumably death-defying waters of the Caribbean, but shattering the all-time world record, by 13 min 35 seconds, for covering the distance from Green Island off the coast of Antigua to the mainland in 44:25. Congratulate Steve not only on this feat but on his wedding. Rumor has it some swimmers are already planning to attempt this very same crossing very soon in hopes of toppling the record…

And if you don’t think you can make the trip to Antigua in the next few weeks, an equally entertaining alternative is to come out and hear the Gratefuls play live from the CNote at Nantasket Beach in Hull on Sat. Nov 12 starting at 8pm. More on this shortly…

Same time & place for Sun. Oct 23

We’ll be meeting Sunday at 8am at Nantasket Beach. The water is getting cooler, now in the 50s, so plan accordingly. If the conditions are calm as forecasted, and because we’ll be close to high tide at this time, we can consider swimming south toward Black Rock or one of the nearer beaches (we’ll leave this as a swim-time decision). As always, we welcome new swimmers and we’ll be offering hot coffee afterward to warm everyone up. Start thinking now about your swim costume for the Halloween swim. Enjoy…

Same Place, New Time for Sun Oct. 9th

This coming Sunday, we’ll leave from the same place, Nantasket Beach (parking lot by Beach Fire). However, by popular demand, and the later sunrises, we’ll plan on leaving  at 8:00 am. Redeye Roasters Coffee will return this week. And without getting into the details, we have a little surprise for everyone that will “brighten” your winter pool workouts. The forecast is for clear and warm days for this weekend, so the conditions may be the best yet (if not a little brisk).

Sun. Swim Oct 2 from Nantasket

Our webmaster (me) took a couple weeks off updating the website (no excuses) but wanted to let everyone know the Sunday swim is on for this Sun Oct. 2nd from Nantasket Beach pending weather. We’ll decide whether to head North or South that morning. The water is still relatively warm and extremely clear for this time of year and Bob’s Redeye Coffee is always awaiting the end of the swim.

And for those who were showed up yesterday, the group voted to make Kodiak Cakes the official breakfast of Crusty Barnacles. They can be found at Fresh Market in the Hingham Shipyard. Senor Baker’s famous fish taco recipe will be forthcoming in a future post.

Enjoy,

Tom

Sunday Swim

We’ll be meeting at the usual spot at Nantasket Beach in Hull at 7:30 AM, leaving from the usual most south-eastern point on the beach (first beach parking lot on the right when driving into Hull). We’ll plan on a swim along the coast given the expected relatively smooth, yet still rougher than normal predicted conditions. The caveat is that, due to popular demand, if we have enough enthusiastic kayak or paddle board friends along with us we can consider a swim to Gunrock Beach and back.

Because it falls on 9/11, we’ll be dedicating the swim to our friends, family, responders and victims who lost their lives, honoring all those whose lives to this day remain impacted, and reflecting on how fortunate all of us are to still have the freedoms we can sometimes take for granted.

As always, safety is our number one priority. Have a look at our Tips & Safety page for a quick refresher and a great article that was just posted to the site that is a must-read cautionary tale.

Labor Day Weekend – Swim Sat at Black Rock;

Swim this weekend will be Sat. @ 7:30 AM from Black Rock Beach in Cohasset. We’ll swim from there to Sandy Beach where there will be cars shuttling us back or for the more ambitious, a group will be swimming back from Sandy.

Those who swim back will be rewarded with a box of Vic’s famous animal crackers and a signed 45 single by the lead guitarist from the Gratefuls. Directions: From 3A, take forest east toward until it ends at the water where you’ll find parking across the street.

Also there will likely be a swim from Nantasket Beach on Sun. More details to follow.

Look forward to seeing everyone there…
